Maserati says that the technical architecture of the Folgore is incredibly innovative thanks to the use of lightweight materials such as aluminum and magnesium. As you might expect, it is the fastest accelerating version of the car as well, a hugely impressive feat. This is the same top speed as the Trofeo version of the GranTurismo, and 11 mph faster than the Modena version of the GranTurismo. The new version of the GranTurismo can go from 0-62 mph in just 2.7 seconds, and the top speed is an equally impressive 198 mph. Maserati have released the performance figures for the GranTurismo Folgore, and they are highly impressive. They're moved around the central tunnel and thus the H-point of the car is much lower than normal. Maserati has adopted a “zero compromise” approach to the car, and that means the battery takes up a T-Bone shape which avoids placing the battery modules under the seats of the car. This means that all in, the Folgore makes around 760 hp, and the car is all-wheel drive as well making us fall in love with the Italian sportscar once again. When it comes to the battery, the nominal capacity of it is 92.5 kWh and the discharge capacity of the battery is at 560 kW. The GranTurismo Folgore has three permanent magnet motors, and each has 300 kW of power in them. The brand is of course taking over the Venturi team from the next season of Formula E onwards. Making up the architecture of this version is 800-volt technology, developed Maserati say with cutting-edge technical solutions derived from Formula E. The electric version of the Gran Turismo is the Folgore, and this adds battery power instead of V6 power. However, there are some differences of course under the skin. The elegant GranTurismo has returned to Maserati’s fold after a brief hiatus, and it does very much look like the previous iteration of the car. The Trident is now firmly in the electric world. This new electric version beautifully compliments the V6 powered version, and brings Maserati inline with other manufacturers as it gears up to debut in the FIA Formula E championship next season. Enter the new GranTurismo Folgore, the first electric vehicle produced by Maserati and continuing the story of the Italian brand that started 75 years ago with the iconic Maserati A6 1500. Car makers all over the world are plunging into the world of electric vehicles and now Maserati has joined that group. But as with other car manufacturers, Maserati needs to look to the future.

But they are certainly going through something of a revival, with their MC20 supercar so far earning high praise among many. The Italian car company has for many years been at the forefront when it comes to performance luxury, even if there have been a few shaky moments in the brand's history. Maserati is one of the most iconic names in the automotive world.
